adidas today released a new video with comedy production team Funny or Die, in which Hollywood actor Christopher Mintz-Plasse finds himself on a quest to discover the best World Cup party. Filmed on location in Rio de Janeiro, and featuring cameos from adidas stars and legends including Fernando Hierro, Juan Mata, Cafu and Patrick Vieira, the sketch sees Mintz-Plasse on a journey through Rio as a roving reporter searching for a party with hilarious results.
Along the way Mintz-Plasse joins Fernando Hierro for the adidas miCoach Smart Ball Power Challenge, receives football tips from Juan Mata and trains with the Flamengo youth team, before talking Brazil and Argentina with Cafu. Feeling disappointed with not being able to find any parties, it is left to French legend Patrick Vieira to explain that the World Cup and going to a match is the biggest party of them all.

In 1996, Nike partnered with the world’s most decorated international side, the Brasilian National Team. It was time to create a boot worthy of their caliber of play. Ronaldo, the squad’s young striker, was chosen as the muse. On the pitch, he was patient—stalking, waiting for the right moment. Then, when opportunity arose, he’d strike, accelerating to the ball with velocity that the game had never seen before. With the goal in his sights, Ronaldo would change in nature. He was, in short, mercurial.
In late April at the Salon de Reinos in Madrid, Nike revealed its fastest and most innovative boot to date, the Mercurial Superfly. But today’s footballers don’t just play on grass and aren’t simply looking for innovation for that surface. With that in mind, Nike introduces the Elastico Superfly IC – a shoe that brings all the innovation and technological benefits of the Mercurial Superfly to the court.
adidas today unveiled the brazuca Final Rio Official Match Ball, the official match ball for the Final of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™. The ball will be an integral part of the Final on 13th July when the top two federations battle it out for a place in history. The design of brazuca Final Rio has been inspired by the green and gold on the FIFA World Cup trophy and is a variation of the previously released adidas brazuca Official Match Ball which was launched back in December last year.
In collaboration with Pepsi® MAX triple-threat actor/director/rapper Idris Elba has today released his first short film directorial debut “Unstoppable”.
This June and July Nike will unleash four of the most innovative pieces of performance footwear that the beautiful game has ever seen. The Hypervenom, Tiempo V, Magista and Mercurial Superfly will converge on the feet of football’s greatest players on sport’s greatest stage.
Continuing the storied history of the boot that transformed the industry, Nike launches the new generation of the Mercurial to match the speed of today’s game.
In a season as tight as this where margins between glory and disaster are smaller than ever, dreams can be realised or crushed in the blink of an eye. It falls to the players who take fate into their own hands to Unlock the Game and deliver when it matters most.
