Nike Football is known for revolutionising the game through innovations like Nike Flyknit and Dynamic Fit collars. But Nike’s design team grew up wearing the era’s leather boots and retains high regard for the material, as well as the soft touch associated with it. Collectively, the team began exploring the potential of fusing leather to Nike’s iconic football silhouettes in 2014. Their thinking quickly evolved into experimentation and, ultimately, a premium collection of hybrid leather boots: Nike Tech Craft.
Nike Tech Craft strategically places a thin layer of leather in high ball-contact areas (the medial and lateral sides of the forefoot) on each of Nike’s four football boot styles — Hypervenom, Magista, Mercurial and Tiempo. Each boot remains true to its original aesthetic and performance attributes, but with the soft touch and classic appeal of leather.
Since 1994, football has changed. The game is faster, with dynamic full-field play essential for every athlete on the pitch. With this in mind, and with the input of athletes such as Carlos Tevez, Gerard Pique, and Ronaldinho, Nike Football melds the legacy of Tiempo with the needs of the modern game to create the best leather football boot to-date.
“When we first showed our players the Nike Premier they said to us: ‘That looks like a classic from the archive.’ When they put it on though, they realized it’s far from old-fashioned,” said Phil McCartney, Vice-President of Nike Football Footwear, who briefed the Nike Football design team to create a classic-looking boot using the latest technology and performance insights.

To say I was excited when I opened up this box is a massive understatement, the King SL has been a boot I’ve wanted to test ever since Thierry Henry returned to Arsenal and scored an absolute cracker on his debut in a pair. Straight away you feel the softness of the leather and the surprisingly minimal weight of this boot.
